It’s all about me baby!

You may be wondering why i set up this blog, well to be honest, so am I. I have profles for twitter, facebook, flikr and god knows what other social networking websites. I even have a profile on MySpace but I dont log in there any more as i’m not an EMO.  So like so many other people I already have my own little bit of the internet where I can tell people what I had for breakfast or why I don’t like Lewis Hamilton, or upload blury photos of the back of peoples heads from the various gigs and festivals I have been to. So why have yet another place to do all that?

Well … im not entirely sure myself but I think it is because of this: Blogging is the big internet craze and as the internet is my job i thought I had better find out what all the hype was about. Unfortunatly, out of the 112.8 million blogs out there, most are by people with more opinions than sence who for some reason think the world actually cares what they have to say. I don’t care what most of them  have to say and they probably won’t care what I have to say, but I MADE THE INTERNET AND I HAVE A RIGHT! :D

Anyway, that leads my nicely onto my next subject, the inetnet and me. The internet is my job, I am a website developer and have been doing this for quite some time, I started out when I was 15 (in 1999). I was at school in my last year and was placed with a local website design company for a weeks work placement, a week ended up turning into several years because I was offered a job. Over the years I built many a website starting out scraping the bottom of the barrel with a website for a pet crematorium and ending in work for Nokia, and Irish crsip manufacturor Tayto. Fast forward 10 years and I am now 24 and responsible for the just one website, PropertyPal.com.

PropertyPal.com is a Northern Ireland based property search engine which I was involved in the from the start, well not the very start, but from the point where it became a search engine. Basically you can log onto our website and search for property for sale or rent in Northern Ireland, simple as that. I am mostly responsible for building and maintaining the front end search engine bit, but there are other bits to our system which other people are responsible for. Though my boss would like me to, I don’t spend all my time doing that, just most of it.

Working too much is an unfortunate side effect of working from home. When I tell people I work from home they seem to think it basically involves sitting round the house all day in your underwear, watching TV and scratching your balls. I wish I did do that (well the underwear bit is true) but I probably do far more work this way than if I had to go into an office. Think about it, my partner Beckie leaves for work around 8am, but she has to drive for an hour to get to work, I only have to walk into the next room. So at 8am, once she has left there isn’t much for me to do but turn on the computer and start working. Then at around 5pm when its time for Beckie to come home, she rings me to let me know. But I have another hour to kill before she gets here, I could watch TV but the only thing on at that time is The Weakest Link, so … I carry on working. It’s not deliberate, its just out of not having anything else to do.

On that note, weekdays aren’t the most interesting of days as there isn’t enough time left at the end of the day to do much other than watch Road Wars, but I do have my interests. Both me and Beckie are big Formula One fans, and we are both into photography. If I could spend my free time taking photos of F1 cars I would. And when I’m not doing that ………. actually there isn’t much else, I’m not that interesting really, if only the other 100 million plus bloggers out there realised that then I wouldn’t be doing this.
